Chance

Chance was a pop up exhibition that I was involved in last June at Chelsea College of Art.

It was an interesting collaboration of artworks involving 5 Wimbledon students: Myself, Rosie Shorten, Magadelena Gluszak, Junhao Gui and Priyanshi Jhaveri and 3 Chelsea students: Xueyu Liu, Yicheng Ye and Hsu Ting. Not having a huge amount of time to prepare for this exhibition, we decided to share the work necessary to put on the show, meaning that we were all to be involved in the curation and installation.

In terms of organisation, first of all we had to find a way to contact the fine art group at Chelsea to source 3 artists that would exhibit with us. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts at contacting Chelsea through email, we asked one of our Wimbledon artists, Junhao Gui to contact his friends that he had on the Chelsea course to spread the message and come up with three artists for the exhibition.

We all met on the 4th June to install our exhibition, having been in contact prior to confirm what each of the artworks would be. The only thing that slowed us down was the bad communication that was received from the Chelsea Students which meant that they did not arrive on time to begin the installation. As a result, we had to begin curating the exhibition for a couple of hours without 3 artist's artworks, which did prove to be a little tricky.

Despite this, I was pleased with the end result. I think the exhibition contained some interesting artworks that worked altogether in a room. I learnt that it is very important to be able to clearly communicate your point across in situations such as this. Maybe if instructions were clearer, we may have had everyone arrive on time to begin curating and installing the exhibition. The challenge to me was the short time scale we had to organise the exhibition but I think this was achieved by maintaining a professional team working ethos by making a list of everything we needed to do and sticking to it. All in all, I very much enjoyed the experience.
